Printable Creations | Creativity Takes Courage

FeaturedImage_CreativityTakesCourage.jpg

I believe that creativity is inside everyone and we each express it differently. But expressing your creativity in whatever form it takes can be scary. You worry about what people will think of your work or product. Will people like it enough to buy? Or will it just be hated?

“Creativity takes courage” -Henri Matisse

Have the courage to post your work and share your passion with the world. If you show you are genuine and love what you do, people will see that and respond positively. It just takes some courage.

Each week I design and post a new Printable Creation that will be available for free to my readers. You can subscribe below to get this week's and all future Printable Creations in your inbox every Wednesday.

Creating the Creation

Tools I used: blob brush, brush tool with dots brush, rectangle tool

To be completely honest, I had the idea for the general look of this quote in the shower one night. (The best ideas come from a nice warm shower!) As soon as I dried off, I grabbed my sketchbook to make sure I didn’t lose the idea. The biggest change from my original sketch was the color. I liked the rainbow dots, but when I put that in action on the screen, it wasn’t looking how I wanted it to. Fun fact: the dots brush I used, I had actually created in Photoshop for my wedding invitations last year. The words being black didn’t work, but with a rainbow dots behind it, no other colors worked well either.

As I moved through the color options in illustrator, I landed on the teal color and really liked it as the shadow behind white letters. I then put in the lighter teal background to make the white letters stand out more. The rainbow dots then looked out-of-place. In order to keep the dot idea for the background, I edited the dot brush to be shades of the teal that I had for the shadow. I lowered the opacity so they wouldn’t take attention away from the words. The final touch was the teal rectangle outline slightly inside the 7x5 area. That created a nice border area to the design.

Each Printable Creation will only be available until the next Wednesday when I post a new printable. But the printable won't be gone forever! Once a new week rolls around and I post a new printable, I add the previous printable to my Etsy shop.
